What is dehydration?

What are the symptoms of being dehydrated?

Dehydration usually begins with mild symptoms such as a feeling of thirst, dry mucous membranes, and slight loss of body weight, but they begin to worsen if the lost fluids and electrolytes are not replaced. In the most serious cases, it can cause death.

What happens to your body when you are dehydrated?

  • The decrease of 2% of water in the body can cause a momentary loss of memory, difficulty with basic mathematical operations and problems focusing the eyes on a computer screen or on a printed page.
  • Heartburn can be a sign of lack of water in the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract. Taking antacids or heartburn tablets does not correct dehydration and the body continues to suffer as a result of not getting enough water.
  • Arthritis can be another of the symptoms and consequences of lack of water. In this case, dehydration would be significantly affecting the joints.
  • Migraine can also be a symptom of the lack of water required in the brain and eyes. Migraine can be avoided by preventing dehydration of the body.
  • Finally, back pain is also considered a symptom, however, on many occasions, it is treated in the wrong way, perhaps with acupuncture, massages or surgery, which, consequently, could even generate osteoporosis.
